Lime is used in many ways.
You may come across it more often than you think.
Due to its excellent ability to react rapidly with other substances, quicklime is ideally suited for use in the treatment of drinking water and wastewater. It is also strongly alkaline, which means that the acidic wastewater produced during the treatment of gold ores, for example, can be neutralised. Being able to regulate the pH value by adding lime is what makes certain processes in beneficiation technology possible in the first place, such as the flotation of acidic copper ores.
Quicklime and sulphur react very quickly with one another - which is why lime is also often used for the desulphurisation of flue gases from power plants.
