Lime is used in many ways.
You may come across it more often than you think.
We come into direct contact with lime every day, even if we don't really notice it. It already starts in the morning when we brush our teeth, because toothpastes contain ultrapure calcium carbonate, which in turn is made from quicklime. When we take tablets, we also swallow a nice amount of lime.
Lime also plays a role in conventional newspaper reading, because it is the basis for the production of "preciptated calcium carbonate" (PCC), which is used as a filler in the paper industry - the more noble a magazine looks, the more lime it contains. Lime is also needed for the production of sugar, and in agriculture it is used as a natural fertiliser.
Without lime there is no human life!
